Why Your Abarth Needs More Than a Tracker: StarLine E9 vs S9

Two real installs, and the gap most Abarth owners don't realise they have

Fiat Abarth 595s and 695s don't come with a factory alarm as standard. For a car that's genuinely a target — desirable, distinctive, and often modified — that's a real gap, not a minor detail.

Why a Tracker Alone Isn't the Full Answer

A lot of Abarth owners invest in an S5 tracker with driver recognition and assume that's the job done. It's a genuinely good product — but on a car with no factory alarm, it's solving one problem while leaving another wide open. Thieves know roughly where trackers tend to be hidden. If they get in and the car won't start, a tracker alone doesn't stop them pushing it away quietly, or stripping it for parts on the street, because nothing's actually making noise or drawing attention while they try.

That's the gap an alarm closes — not instead of a tracker or immobiliser, alongside them.

StarLine isn't a generic, pre-loomed kit. Every installation is custom to the specific vehicle, which makes it meaningfully harder for someone familiar with a "typical" wiring pattern to find and bypass.

Two Real Installs: E9 and S9

We've fitted both tiers to Abarths — here's what each one actually looks like in practice.

StarLine S9 — full install
StarLine E9 — why an alarm matters, and the install

Across both, you'll see the same core protection in action: the alarm triggering, warn-away sensors activating before anyone even touches the glass, engine immobilisation, and RunLock — locking the vehicle with the factory key still in the ignition and the engine running, useful for those quick "just popping in" moments. The alarm arms and switches into immobiliser mode, so if it's triggered and detects both motion and the handbrake being released, the engine shuts down automatically.

E9 vs S9 — What's Actually Different

Anti-hijack (shuts engine down if moved without authorisation)Available, usually left offYes
RunLockYesYes
Bluetooth tag authorisationYesYes
Phone call & SMS alertsNoYes

The anti-hijack feature here is the S9/E9's own built-in protection — a different mechanism from the remote-command anti-hijack we've written about for the Nitro Pro when paired with a tracker. Similar goal, different system.

Which One Suits Your Abarth?

If you want the full alarm, immobilisation, and anti-hijack fundamentals without needing app connectivity, the E9 covers it. If you also want to know exactly where your car is and get an instant call or text the moment something's wrong, the S9 adds that layer on top. For the Fiat 500 Abarth specifically, the S9 is fitted from £899 — see our full StarLine S9 page for the wider breakdown, or our dedicated Abarth security page for a full cost comparison against the S5 + Ghost setup forums usually recommend.

Quick Questions

Do Abarths really not have a factory alarm?

Not as standard — which is exactly why an aftermarket alarm is a genuine upgrade rather than a duplicate of something already fitted.

Is a tracker enough on its own?

A tracker helps with recovery, but on a car with no factory alarm it doesn't deter someone from breaking in or stripping the car where it's parked. An alarm and immobiliser close that gap.

What's RunLock?

It lets you lock the vehicle with the factory key still in the ignition and the engine running — you arm it using the StarLine tag or, on the S9, the app. The alarm switches into immobiliser mode, and if it's triggered while detecting motion and the handbrake being released, the engine shuts down.

Should I choose the E9 or the S9?

The E9 covers the alarm, immobilisation, and anti-hijack fundamentals. The S9 adds live GPS tracking, phone/SMS alerts, and global app control on top. Get in touch and we'll talk through which fits how you use your Abarth.
